What's To Gain?

A 10 % market share in the refrigeration unit (RRU) market = about €7,400,000.

A 10 % market share in the heat pump (RHP) market = about €400,000,000.

The transport refrigeration market is expanding as freight activity increases. As an example, the European Union is expecting a continued, steady growth of freight transport activity for the foreseeable future*. Driving factors in the development of new, more efficient technology for transport refrigeration are, among others, increasing energy prices as well as increasingly demanding environmental and foodstuffs regulations.

The technology is also well adaptable to air conditioning system. This market is even bigger than road transportation refrigeration.

Our technology innovation has already passed the crucial proof of concept stage and is now on the brink of prototyping and market testing. We have business partners and pilot customers signed up and ready to take part in the process of fine-tuning the technology until it is ready for licensing, mass production and further development.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Thermo Power is the owner of a patented rotary heat pump, a liquid ring compressor and a fan technology platform. Compared to existing technology, a system using Thermo Power technology will be:

Today's heat pump systems that are found in refrigeration units are often bulky and inefficient because each part is driven separately by a diesel motor. This is where Thermo Power comes in. Our heat pump system is compact, light and energy efficient because all parts are powered by a single electric motor and rotate around a single axis in one, compact unit.

WHAT IS A HEAT PUMP?

When you think about refrigeration, you probably don't think of heat pumps. However, a heat pump can both heat and cool. Simply put, a heat pump is a device that uses a small amount of energy to move heat from one location to another. Heat pumps in transport refrigeration are used to pull heat out of a compartment in order to keep the temperature at a given level. If the outside temperature is very low, the airflow can be reversed.

THEN WHAT?

For now, road transport refrigeration is our top priority, and we are on the verge of prototyping and market testing. In 1 to 1.5 years, our technology will be on the market. But what happens next? Do we have plans for further development of our technology? Yes, we do.

Our technology is scalable

The Thermo Power heat pump system is completely scalable. It is thus possible to adapt it to virtually any application area where a heat pump is in use. This includes most other forms of refrigerated transportation, i.e. reefer containers for air or sea freight. It is also adaptable to air conditioning units, like the ones used to maintain a pleasant indoor atmosphere, and to industrial refrigeration.

For example

The air conditioning market is even bigger than road transportation refrigeration. In 2012, worldwide sales of air conditioning units amounted to a whopping €81,200,000,000*. There were, in 2008, around 650,000,000 such units in use in the world - and sooner or later, they all need to be replaced. Thermo Power can offer a simpler, more efficient technology that will also take up less space and make less noise.
